Position Overview
The Senior Computer Systems Engineer/Architect will serve as the senior technical authority supporting the biometric matching environment and OBIM's technology evolution. This role will guide system evolution, modernization, technology refresh, architecture decisions, and technical trade analyses to ensure systems remain effective, scalable, supportable, and protected against technological obsolescence.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as the primary technical expert for technology supporting the biometric matcher environment.
· Lead and advise on system evolution, modernization, technology refresh, and future-state architecture.
· Evaluate legacy technologies and services and identify opportunities for modernization.
· Assess future service demands and develop technology approaches to accommodate evolving OBIM requirements.
· Conduct technical reviews, architecture assessments, and technology trade analyses.
· Evaluate emerging technologies, methods, platforms, and enabling technologies relevant to biometric matching.
· Provide technical recommendations for system evolution and modernization decisions.
· Support architecture and engineering activities throughout the systems engineering lifecycle.
· Ensure proposed technical solutions align with DHS enterprise architecture, security, cloud, infrastructure, application, and data requirements.
· Collaborate with program management, security, development, network, and other technical teams.
· Support continuity of technical decisions, architecture documentation, and system evolution processes.
· Help ensure legacy systems continue to meet stakeholder requirements while transitioning toward future capabilities.
Required Qualifications
· 10+ years of specialized IT experience.
· Extensive systems engineering and architecture experience.
· Experience with large-scale IT environments.
· Strong experience with system architecture, modernization, technology evaluation, and technical trade studies.
· Experience with biometric matching and/or database systems highly preferred.
· Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and their applicability to enterprise systems.
· Strong analytical, technical documentation, and communication skills.
· Ability to operate as a senior technical authority and advise stakeholders on architecture and technology decisions.
