Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (Kubernetes + Go)
Location- Sunnyvale, CA
Duration- 6 months+
Must-Have Skills and Experience
5+ years of professional software engineering, including 3+ years writing production Go.
3+ years using or building Kubernetes controllers or operators using kubebuilder and controller-runtime, covering CRD design, reconciler patterns, finalizers, and status conditions.
Working knowledge of the CSI specification - dynamic provisioning, attach and detach, snapshots, high availability, volume expansion and network topology awareness.
Working knowledge of PostgreSQL administration - write-ahead logging, copy on readbase backups, point-in-time recovery, physical and streaming replication, and the trade-offs between physical and logical backup strategies.
Ability to write end-to-end automated functional test cases and tests against live Kubernetes clusters, and produce clear, reproducible test reports for stakeholders.
Familiarity with observability primitives - Prometheus metrics, structured logging, and reconciliation-loop SLIs.
Good-to-Have Skills
Prior work on AlloyDB Omni, CloudNativePG, the Zalando Postgres operator, Crunchy Data, or similar PostgreSQL-on-Kubernetes operators.
Hands-on experience with one or more enterprise storage platforms - Portworx Enterprise, NetApp Trident / Astra Control, Ceph, or equivalent - including their snapshot and replication features.
Google Cloud Platform depth - GKE, Persistent Disk, Regional PD, Cloud Storage, Workload Identity.
Contributions to CNCF or Kubernetes-ecosystem open-source projects.
Certifications such as CKA, CKAD, or CKS.
Experience presenting technical work to enterprise customers or joint engineering partners.
Key Responsibilities
Extend the AlloyDB Omni operator's Go reconciler to provision and manage CSI-backed volumes across Portworx, NetApp, and Google Cloud Persistent Disk.
Design and implement Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) for backup and restore etc. using OpenAPI v3 validation schema.
Build automation hooks in Go to coordinate PostgreSQL freeze and thaw inside database pods.
Implement custom logic in Go for High Availability and Disaster Recovery, operator scheduling, snapshot-based secondary bootstrap, storage-assisted failover, and node fencing etc.
Write validation cases/suite and validation reports and execute automated validation tests for existing and new code vis a vis different Customer User Journeys written in the k8s operator.
Ensure error handling is done in idempotent and transient and terminal errors are separated
Generate validation and benchmark reports for functional tests on extended k8s operator functionalities
Author diagnostic runbooks and best-practice guides, and partner with Google engineering, potential, AlloyDB customers and storage vendors during validation and troubleshooting.
The exact requirement is a Go developer who has developed Kubernetes operators and not just used Kubernetes for deployment.
