COMPENSATION: $42 - $52 HOURLY
Role Overview
We are seeking a Materials Manager to establish and oversee all shipping, receiving, inventory management, and warehousing operations for a rapid prototyping and low-rate production facility. This role involves managing a high diversity of parts and materials in a dynamic R&D environment. The ideal candidate will build practical systems for tracking, storing, and staging thousands of unique SKUs while maintaining the speed and flexibility required in a development setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all inbound receiving and outbound shipping operations, including verifying shipments, inspecting for damage, and processing documentation.
- Establish and maintain inventory tracking systems for a high-variety, low-volume environment, functioning effectively without a mature ERP system.
- Conduct cycle counts, reconcile inventory discrepancies, and maintain accuracy targets.
- Organize the warehouse layout for efficient storage, retrieval, and flow of materials to production areas.
- Kit and stage materials for build campaigns in coordination with the production planner.
- Lead and develop a small team of material handlers and receiving specialists.
- Build warehouse processes from the ground up, including defining workflows, creating SOPs, and establishing operating standards.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements to reduce handling time, improve accuracy, and increase throughput.
Required Qualifications
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse management, materials management, or shipping/receiving operations is required. This includes experience managing inventory in a high-mix, low-volume environment and managing a small team.
Skills: Candidates must have proficiency with inventory tracking tools such as spreadsheets or barcode scanners, and a demonstrated ability to build and improve warehouse processes. Forklift certification or the ability to obtain it is required. The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, operations management, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in warehouse or materials management, preferably in an R&D, prototype, aerospace, or defense manufacturing environment.
- Experience standing up warehouse operations in a new or greenfield facility.
- Experience with ERP/WMS systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
- APICS CPIM, CSCP, or similar supply chain certification.
- Experience managing inventory for complex multi-level BOMs with frequent engineering changes.
- Experience handling ESD-sensitive electronic components and hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of lean warehousing principles, kanban, and visual management systems.
