By Myra Thomas Clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters plans to hire at least 100 engineering and development operations people in its new San Francisco office over the next 12 months. American Eagle LogoIn an interview with Dice News, Kristin Cherico, the company’s Manager of Recruiting, said that the location will supplement the existing e-commerce team at company headquarters in Pittsburgh. The intent, she says, is to have the office contribute to the build out of technological innovation and American Eagle’s omni-channel practice. The 10,000 square-foot office, located in the financial district at 49 Stevenson Street, represents American Eagle’s first corporate presence in San Francisco. The location opened its doors on July 22. It will serve as a home base for more than a dozen company leaders and the new hires to come, including engineers, designers and a digital marketing team. Said Cherico: “We look forward to innovating in the e-commerce retail technology space, creating a truly unique and superior customer experience across all channels, including the website, mobile, tablet, and in store technology on a global scale.” The teams in San Francisco will be working on site features and functionality, such as “path to product” and “path to checkout,” as well as mobile transformation, user experience and global site expansion. For the moment, American Eagle is focused on hiring engineering and dev ops people for the location. Platform Java engineers are needed, and AGT experience is a big plus. The company is also on the lookout for UI engineers with experience in HTML, CSS, custom Javascript and Ruby. In addition, it’s hiring test engineers, build and release engineers, e-commerce systems administrators, Oracle DBAs and product managers. In a press release, Joe Megibow, Senior Vice President and General Manager of omni-channel e-Commerce -- and head of the San Francisco office -- said, “We are investing heavily in the top talent San Francisco and the Bay Area has to offer and recognize the strategic value of being close to our technology partners in the area.”
