Roddy McDowell was better as the doomed purser in The Poseidon Adventure than he was as the sensitive new-age simian in the original Planet of the Apes. It was the general tackiness of the original that kept me from seeing the 2001 re-make, though usually I'm a sucker for Tim Burton movies. So, when the prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out not long ago, I figured I'd skip it and watch my Battlestar Gallactica DVDs instead. I may rethink that now. Over at AllThingsD, Kara Swisher spotlighted this trailer, which shows the film's CGI work.

Its producer, Peter Chernin, told me that a lot more of the film than it seems — including the stunning opening scenes in the wild that look like a real-life nature special — were mostly CGI, used to prep audiences for extended scenes of the apes morphing into believable rebels.
Watching this, you pretty much know all the apes are animated but still, if I was an actor I'd be worried. First, no more men in monkey suits. Next, C3PO as himself... Source: AllThingsD Photo: IMDB
