Two technology sectors posted strong job growth in October, marking the third straight month of increases on top of year-on-year gains.

Friday's figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that employment in the computer systems, design and services sector increased 4.8 percent since October 2011, to 1.6 million jobs. In the most recent three months, the sector added 11,000 positions. Meantime, employment in the professional and technical services sector climbed 2.9 percent from a year ago to nearly 8 million jobs in October. Over the past three months, 26,000 jobs were added. Things weren't so good among communications equipment businesses. The number of jobs there dropped 5.5 percent year-on-year and has slipped by 1,300 since August. At the time, economists noted that a sluggish economy usually results in lower equipment-related sales.
