Amazon’s cloud services failed this morning, bringing down websites like Foursquare, Quora, Reddit and Hootsuite. The company's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service at the its northern Virgina facility began having problems at 1:41 a.m. PST. As of 8 PST today, the sites were still down. “Sorry, it sucks for us too," said a note on Quora. "We'd point fingers, but we wouldn't be where we are today without EC2." Reddit seems to be operating, but still says, "Amazon is currently experiencing a degradation." A long list of customers relies on Amazon EC2, which provides servers on a pay-as-you-go basis that lets customers adjust usage according to their varying computing needs. This, of course, will raise concerns about the reliability of not only Amazon’s cloud services, but cloud services companies that businesses rely on for their core processes. We'll see how this affects their progress as the dust settles. Source: cnet
