Job DetailsSenior Mechanical Engineer - *Based out of our San Jose or Alameda office*
Join an established engineering team where your work carries through from the drawing board to installation and operation. You'll have the opportunity to shape practical, code-compliant solutions, take ownership of projects, and support the development of other engineers.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll serve as a hands-on technical lead within the Engineering Department, guiding mechanical design from early planning through permit approval and construction documentation. Your role extends beyond producing plans: you'll help ensure your designs are installed successfully and perform as intended. You'll own project outcomes, mentor junior team members, and help deliver systems that meet requirements while working effectively in real-world conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Direct mechanical design from initial concepts through permitting and preparation of final construction documents.
- Set design criteria, choose appropriate systems, determine equipment sizes, and develop control approaches throughout each project.
- Design and troubleshoot air-side systems, including VAV and DOAS, as well as water-side systems such as hydronic distribution and pumping.
- Carry out quality reviews during design, confirming work meets project standards and can be practically built.
- Assist during construction by reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and taking part in site visits.
- Coach junior engineers in project delivery, code requirements, and producing clear, high-quality documents.
Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of experience in commercial construction.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Strong grasp of engineering principles, HVAC systems, and installation practices.
- Familiarity with California building codes and relevant local regulations.
- Experience with Carrier HAP, Trace 700, Energy Pro, or comparable software.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience is preferred.
