Scope of Project: The Software Developer position supports the NYSDOL Website Redesign project by designing, implementing, and maintaining a new, more user-friendly site. The resource will provide specialized technical support, knowledge transfer, incident resolution, enhancement delivery, and documentation for required integrations between existing DOL software products/data and the new website platform.
The selected candidate will work as part of an agile development team supporting NYSDOL website integration with existing software products and data. Activities include, but are not limited to: Analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and document required use cases. Develop accessible user-interface screens, reusable components, and application frameworks using Angular and Java technologies, with emphasis on ADA compliance. Develop and maintain REST and SOAP web services and integrate application components into end-to-end business processes. Develop complex SQL and data-access components for DB2 and other relational databases, including object-relational mapping frameworks. Perform unit, integration, regression, and performance testing; identify and resolve software defects and performance bottlenecks. Use GitHub or GitLab repositories and CI/CD pipelines to support controlled software builds, testing, and deployments.
Deploy, support, and maintain applications hosted on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) or other enterprise cloud platforms, including configuring Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and managing cloud storage. Configure and secure web servers (such as Apache or Nginx) to manage URL redirects/rewrites, and integrate third-party embedded content using CORS, CSP, and Single Sign-On (SSO). Create and maintain technical designs, sequence diagrams, activity diagrams, system documentation, and operational support procedures. Conduct code reviews and mentor State staff in modern application-development practices.
Required/Preferred Skills:
- 5 years of experience developing Java-based, multi-tier web applications using J2EE or Spring Boot, industry-standard design patterns, and agile methodologies.
- 4 years of experience developing Angular user interfaces, reusable components, and accessible web applications that meet ADA or WCAG requirements.
- 4 years of experience developing and integrating REST or SOAP services, backend business services, batch jobs, and application interfaces.
- 2 years of experience developing complex relational database queries and data-access components using SQL, DB2, Hibernate, JPA, or comparable technologies.
- 3 years of experience using GitHub or GitLab repositories and CI/CD pipeline technologies for automated build, test, and deployment activities.
- 2 years of experience developing or supporting applications hosted on Google Cloud Platform or another enterprise cloud platform, including configuring Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) like Cloudflare or Akamai, and managing external file hosting/storage solutions.
- 2 years of experience analyzing and documenting existing application designs, enhancement roadmaps, technical debt, or system functionality.
- 2 years of experience configuring web servers (such as Apache, Nginx, or IIS) to manage complex URL redirects and rewrite rules, and integrating/securing third-party embedded content (such as Tableau dashboards or external widgets) using CORS, CSP, or Single Sign-On (SSO)
