Position OverviewBoeing Production Engineering is seeking an experienced
Technical Designer (Level 5) to support manufacturing operations and engineering teams across multiple Washington State facilities. This role is responsible for developing and updating engineering designs, supporting production-related issues in real time, and translating engineering concepts into detailed product definitions. The ideal candidate will possess strong aerospace design experience, advanced CAD skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities Technical Design & Engineering Support
- Apply drafting principles, product design knowledge, and engineering concepts to resolve product and process issues during fabrication and production.
- Develop and revise detailed part, assembly, and installation drawings to support operational and quality requirements.
- Implement engineering model definition changes based on engineering direction and approved design requirements.
- Translate engineering concepts and technical feedback into accurate physical part geometry and assembly definitions.
- Support design changes, continuous improvement initiatives, and manufacturing problem resolution throughout the product lifecycle.
- Maintain a high standard of technical excellence while contributing to engineering and production objectives.
Materials & Process Engineering Support
- Provide materials and process engineering support to Boeing Commercial Airplane programs from initial design through production and fleet support.
- Support the definition and application of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components across Boeing products.
- Review engineering documents, specifications, and materials/process requirements used to design, certify, and manufacture systems hardware.
- Analyze non-conformances related to electrical components and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct laboratory investigations and failure analysis to determine root causes of component failures and recommend corrective measures.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and participate in the assessment of their potential application to future Boeing products.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Stress Engineering, and suppliers to address materials, process, and production challenges.
- Develop technical requirements, specifications, and documentation supporting the implementation of tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment supporting product development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in real-time problem-solving activities within a fast-paced, agile manufacturing setting.
- Coordinate with multiple stakeholders and organizations to ensure successful project execution and design implementation.
Required Qualifications- Associate degree in Drafting, Design, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 9+ years of aerospace design experience, including detailed part and assembly design.
- Strong understanding of product structures, including details, parts, assemblies, and installations.
- Experience with machining and fabrication of metallic components.
- Proficiency with CATIA or equivalent 3D solid modeling software.
- Experience using Integrated Visualization Tool (IVT).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

Work Environment- This is a non-managerial, individual contributor role with no direct leadership responsibilities.
- Position requires regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Work schedules may include first, second, or third shift assignments, alternate work weeks, weekends, and overtime as business demands require.
Education & Experience- Associate (AA) degree in a related field and typically 9 or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
