ICS Power Systems SME
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated IT/OT professional to join our Power Systems technology team in the Houston, TX area. This person will serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting generation management and industrial control system technologies.
Ideal candidate will bring a combination of power-generation knowledge, real-time operational systems experience, IT/OT integration expertise, and hands-on experience supporting Generation Management Systems (GMS).
Key Responsibilities
· Provide technical ownership for architecture, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of Generation Management System (GMS) platforms.
· Translate operational and business requirements into reliable, scalable, and maintainable power-system technology solutions.
· Support generation scheduling, unit commitment, dispatch, optimization, and related operational processes across a range of generation assets.
· Design and maintain integrations between GMS and surrounding operational platforms, including SCADA, EMS, DMS, market applications, historians, and enterprise systems.
· Ensure accurate and reliable movement of operational data across OT and IT environments.
· Analyze system performance, identify technical or operational improvement opportunities, and implement solutions that improve availability, efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
· Partner closely with power operations, engineering, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other technical stakeholders to maintain secure and highly available systems.
· Plan and execute system upgrades, software releases, migrations, patches, hotfixes, and associated testing with appropriate attention to operational continuity.
· Investigate complex system issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive actions.
· Act as a technical escalation point for significant incidents and operational issues involving GMS and related control-system technologies.
· Support the development and maintenance of system architectures, technical standards, procedures, operational documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
· Identify opportunities to strengthen the cybersecurity and resilience of operational technology environments and assist with implementation of appropriate controls.
· Lead or contribute to power-system technology initiatives, including modernization programs, new implementations, system enhancements, and enterprise integration projects.
· Improve data-management capabilities between operational automation platforms and enterprise applications to support analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making.
· Help establish effective data and integration practices across IT and OT environments.
· Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to operations and technology teams.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Power Systems, Information Technology, or a comparable technical discipline.
· At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with Generation Management Systems or closely related power-system applications.
· Practical understanding of electric power-generation operations, with experience involving one or more of the following: conventional/thermal generation, renewable assets, or cogeneration.
· Experience working with real-time operational technology and environments where IT and OT systems intersect.
· Understanding of system interfaces, integration methods, data flows, and technologies such as APIs, OPC, and messaging platforms.
· Working knowledge of ICCP and its application in exchanging real-time power-system information.
· Understanding of IT networking concepts and their application within operational environments.
· Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
· Experience with at least one software programming or scripting language.
· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
· Familiarity with project management principles and technology implementation methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Power Systems, Information Technology, or another relevant technical discipline.
· Experience with AspenTech energy-management technologies, including EMS, SCADA, GMS, or related platforms.
· Knowledge of electricity markets, generation scheduling processes, and applicable industry or regulatory requirements.
· Experience applying cybersecurity principles within industrial or operational technology environments.
· Background supporting highly available or 24/7 operational technology systems.
· Familiarity with DCS, BPCS, and OPC-based industrial communications.
· Experience working on complex system implementations, upgrades, integrations, or modernization initiatives within the power industry.
