Onsite Requirement: Every 3rd day at the Shipley Building, 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, OH.

Job Description

The selected Consultant will be directly responsible for designing a modern, intuitive UI/UX and will have direct experience interacting with business users to create the UI/UX.

They will work closely with designated Business Users, I.T. supervisors, project managers, and development staff within an Agile development environment, maintaining a user-centered design approach while tackling complex design problems and influencing product strategy.

The Consultant will proactively identify areas of the product that need improvement and drive those improvements into a product roadmap.

Working with ODPS staff, the Consultant will be responsible for researching, designing, and developing user interfaces using Prototyping Designer tools. The new applications will implement an N-tier architecture and comply with ODPS coding standards.

During the interview process with ODPS staff, the resource consultant must demonstrate competence/experience in their specific area(s) of project assignment and must present or share their portfolio with samples. The resource’s experience must also be documented for review and verification. Offered resources not demonstrating technical or functional competence/experience may be rejected. The Offeror is responsible for pre-screening candidates to ensure compliance. The resource will have a background check conducted by ODPS.

Responsibilities

1. Participate in meetings with stakeholders, business users, and engineering teams to understand and project UI requirements.
2. Design wireframes and interactive prototypes and user-friendly designs that support complex business processes.
3. Work on various stages of the product development process from discovery to research to design user interface.
4. Test and iterate various product concepts with users; conduct user research and analysis to validate the design.
5. Work with project managers, developers, and business analysts to brainstorm ideas, approaches, and design solutions.
6. Create a Design System Library for reusability.
7. Create a seamless UI handoff process to the development team.
8. Ensure that user interface and experience designs follow best practices and comply with security requirements.
9. Work closely with backend developers to integrate front-end components.
10. Participate in backlog grooming sessions and other Agile ceremonies to ensure Agile development teams have a good understanding of the proposed UI design for successful implementation.
11. Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills.
12. Demonstrate strong influence, collaboration, and negotiation experience.
13. Collaborate with supporting resources across business and/or functional lines.
14. Communicate ideas to a wide variety of stakeholders, lead discussions and creative activities, and build consensus while dealing with ambiguity.
15. Lead and manage large design initiatives, including managing competing priorities with product and engineering peers.
16. Demonstrate excellent oral and written skills and possess strong meeting and work session facilitation skills.
17. Work independently and as part of a team while managing time and resources to meet assigned deadlines.
18. Demonstrate strong understanding of prioritization stemming from the elicitation of system and/or user requirements.
19. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and proven analytical, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
20. Be knowledgeable in the English language and speak clearly and understandably using the English language.
21. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to technical staff.

Required Skills

• Verifiable experience in taking user interface requirements and using them to design intuitive, user-centered interfaces for workflow-heavy applications – 8 years
• Advanced understanding of information architecture and designing intuitive user interfaces, navigations, and multi-step workflows – 8 years
• Experience developing a project within an Agile methodology, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and iterative delivery – 8 years
• Highly skilled in working with design systems, including component libraries, reusable patterns, and visual standards – 5 years
• Experience designing and delivering SaaS, enterprise, or complex digital products – 5 years
• Experience with modern designer tools such as Figma, Axure, Sketch, or similar – 5 years
• Familiarity with backend and frontend development environments sufficient to collaborate effectively
• Experience designing accessible interfaces that align with WCAG and Section 508 requirements
• Demonstrable understanding of secure UX design practices, accessibility standards, and designing interfaces
• Experience collaborating with frontend developers on HTML/CSS implementation details
