Senior IT Project Manager – VDOT
Location: Mechanicsville, VA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – Onsite up to 3 days/week

Job Summary
VDOT is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to lead complex technology projects from initiation through completion. The ideal candidate will work with senior leadership, business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery and business value.
Responsibilities
Lead complex IT projects through the complete project lifecycle.
Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, and deliverables.
Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, resources, and scope.
Coordinate with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and leadership.
Provide project status updates, reporting, and executive-level communication.
Apply Agile, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and Waterfall methodologies.
Manage project governance, documentation, change management, and delivery.
Ensure projects meet quality, schedule, budget, and business objectives.
Lead project teams and coordinate resources across multiple functions.
Mandatory Qualifications
Active PMI PMP Certification.
Strong experience in IT Project Management and full project lifecycle management.
Demonstrated project risk management experience.
Experience as Project Manager of Record (PM of Record).
Must have successfully completed either:
Commonwealth of Virginia Category 1 or Category 2 project valued at $5M+, OR
Non-Commonwealth project valued at $10M+.
Hands-on experience with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Waterfall.
Must be a local candidate able to work onsite in Mechanicsville, VA up to 3 days/week.
Preferred Qualifications
Commonwealth of Virginia Project Management Certification.
Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia/VITA project management practices.
Commonwealth risk management experience.
Experience managing Virginia Category 1/Category 2 projects.
Experience with the SAFe framework.
