Position Overview
Client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Appian Architect with deep technical expertise in designing, architecting, and implementing enterprise-grade applications using the Appian platform. The ideal candidate must possess strong hands-on experience with Appian architecture, application development, business process management (BPM), workflow automation, integrations, and platform optimization.
The architect will be responsible for defining end-to-end Appian solution architecture, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions, establishing development standards, and guiding development teams through implementation and deployment. This role requires someone who can combine strong architectural leadership with practical, hands-on Appian expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise applications using the Appian platform.
- Define scalable, secure, high-performing, and maintainable Appian solution architectures aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Design and architect complex Appian applications using SAIL interfaces, record types, process models, expression rules, decision rules, and reusable application components.
- Establish Appian architecture standards, design patterns, development guidelines, and best practices across projects.
- Architect complex business workflows, process automation, case management, and business process management solutions.
- Design and implement integrations between Appian and enterprise systems using REST APIs, SOAP web services, connected systems, and integration objects.
- Provide technical leadership on Appian data architecture, data fabric, record-centric application design, and integration strategies.
- Optimize Appian applications for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Define application security architecture, including user authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and data-level security.
- Lead technical design reviews, code reviews, architecture assessments, and troubleshooting of complex technical issues.
- Guide Appian developers and technical teams, ensuring adherence to architecture standards and development best practices.
- Oversee application deployment, environment management, release management, and CI/CD practices across development, testing, and production environments.
- Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, solution architects, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical architecture and implementation plans.
- Identify opportunities to modernize existing applications, improve workflows, and leverage Appian platform capabilities for enterprise automation.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with the Appian platform and enterprise application architecture.
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex, enterprise-scale Appian applications.
- Strong expertise in Appian SAIL, Sites, Records, Process Models, Expression Rules, Decision Rules, and reusable components.
- Deep understanding of Appian data architecture, Record Types, Data Fabric, data relationships, and data access patterns.
- Strong experience with Appian integrations, including REST APIs, SOAP services, web services, and external system connectivity.
- Experience designing complex workflows, business process automation, case management, and process orchestration solutions.
- Strong understanding of Appian security architecture, performance optimization, scalability, and application governance.
- Experience with Appian deployment strategies, environment management, application versioning, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, and enterprise application integration patterns.
- Ability to evaluate technical solutions, identify architectural risks, and recommend scalable design approaches.
- Strong communication, technical leadership, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Appian Certified Lead Developer, Senior Developer, or applicable Appian architecture certification.
- Experience leading enterprise Appian implementations from architecture and design through production deployment.
- Experience integrating Appian with cloud platforms and enterprise systems.
- Experience in financial services, commercial real estate, mortgage servicing, asset management, or related business domains.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a true Appian Architect who has deep product knowledge and can independently own the technical architecture of enterprise Appian solutions. The candidate must be capable of making architectural decisions, leading technical discussions, guiding developers, and working directly with business and technology stakeholders.
MUST-HAVE: Strong hands-on Appian architecture experience, enterprise Appian solution design, SAIL, Records, Process Models, Data Fabric, integrations, security, and performance optimization. Candidates with only Appian development experience and no solution architecture ownership will not be a fit.
