Role Overview
A position is available for a Data Center Technician Shift Lead to support network infrastructure operations within a large-scale data center environment in New Albany, Ohio. This role is focused on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, documenting, and supporting data center network infrastructure within a mission-critical environment. This is an opportunity for candidates with experience in data centers, structured cabling, telecommunications, network installations, low-voltage systems, hardware deployment, or technical field support.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, rack, stack, cable, label, and document network equipment including switches, routers, patch panels, optics, and related infrastructure.
- Perform hardware replacement and break/fix activities on switches, transceivers, optics, power supplies, fans, line cards, cables, and other field-replaceable network components.
- Install, route, dress, label, validate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling supporting network infrastructure.
- Read and validate rack elevations, port maps, cabling diagrams, installation instructions, asset records, and work orders.
- Perform visual inspections, hardware audits, serial number validation, asset tagging, inventory updates, and port validation.
- Execute network device installs, swaps, decommissions, upgrades, and Moves, Adds, and Changes according to approved procedures.
- Support network engineering teams through Smart Hands activities and remote troubleshooting assistance.
- Update ticketing systems, asset records, inventory records, work orders, and completion documentation accurately.
- Support inventory management, parts handling, receiving, staging, secure equipment movement, and chain-of-custody processes.
- Work from MOPs, SOPs, CMOPs, and customer procedures during deployments, maintenance windows, and change activity.
Required Qualifications
- 1-2 years of hands-on technical experience with hardware installation, rack-and-stack, component replacement, cabling, asset handling, break/fix, or technical field support.
- Experience working with network hardware, telecommunications equipment, structured cabling, low-voltage systems, or related technologies.
- Basic understanding of switches, routers, optics, copper cabling, fiber optic infrastructure, and network connectivity concepts.
- Ability to follow documented procedures and perform work with limited supervision.
- Ability to accurately maintain asset records, tickets, inventory records, and work documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, teamwork, and attention to detail.
- Ability to pass background screening and customer-required site access checks.
- Must be willing to work in full PPE, including safety boots, long pants, hard hat, high-visibility vest or clothing, and safety glasses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting network infrastructure in a data center, colocation, telecommunications, enterprise, or critical environment.
- Experience replacing optics, transceivers, power supplies, fans, cabling, and other network hardware components.
- Experience with fiber cleaning, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and cable certification.
- Experience with switch installation, patching, port validation, labeling standards, cable dressing, and asset management.
- Exposure to Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Mellanox/NVIDIA, or similar networking platforms.
- Willingness to relocate to New Albany, OH or travel to New Albany for site-based work.
- Willingness to support other data center sites as needed is a plus.
- CompTIA A+, Network+, BICSI, FOA, OSHA 10, or equivalent technical certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Must be willing to wear full PPE while on site, including safety boots, long pants, hard hat, high-visibility vest or clothing, and safety glasses.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and move equipment up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, distinguish cable and fiber colors, and work in hot or cold data center environments.
- Ability to support scheduled maintenance windows, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, or emergency response when required.
