Job Title: Active Directory Specialist
Location: Remote
Duration: Long term Contract
Job Description:
Looking for a senior, hands-on Server & Active Directory Specialist to take ownership of a legacy application migration/POC involving an early-2000s FoxPro application with SMB1 dependency. The resource must independently perform discovery, validate the secure migration approach, work with end users, and prepare the solution for Architecture Review Board (ARB) approval.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed discovery of the existing legacy environment — approximately 5 servers and 400+ users, with limited documentation.
Assess Windows Server, Active Directory, domain integration, user identities, groups and permissions.
Understand current user access, including RDP, file shares, application access and printing workflows.
Design the approach for migrating users to the new Active Directory/domain, including file-share re-permissioning and updated access methods.
Work with the legacy application''s SMB1 dependency and validate a secure, isolated solution that prevents SMB1 exposure to the wider corporate network.
Take ownership of the existing POC/baseline and validate the SMB2-to-SMB1 intermediary/conversion approach.
Define and execute user/application test scenarios and document results.
Proactively engage users to understand and document existing workflows rather than operating only as reactive support.
Support server backup and restore, with relevant Commvault and Microsoft Azure experience.
Produce clear, repeatable technical documentation for subsequent migration activities.
Prepare the secure temporary architecture/design and ARB documentation and support the technical review/approval process.
Required Skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
Legacy application migration/support experience.
Strong technical discovery and documentation skills.
Ability to work directly with business users and infrastructure/security/architecture teams.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
