Job Description
We are seeking a Karat - Software Engineer Java Senior (C13/C14) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Core Java, distributed systems, data streaming, and the Spring ecosystem and a proven ability to design, build, and optimize high-performance batch and real-time backend platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze complex requirements and define scalable, reliable, and secure backend architectures, evaluating microservices and event-driven patterns.
- Write production-grade Java code using OOP, SOLID principles, and established design patterns.
- Lead delivery of complex backend and data-processing initiatives across the SDLC with cross-functional teams.
- Serve as SME for high-throughput processing, stream processing, and JVM performance tuning.
- Profile and resolve performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and concurrency issues in distributed systems.
- Champion TDD, unit and integration testing, and rigorous code reviews to improve code quality.
- Provide mentorship and architectural guidance to engineers to promote technical excellence.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 8+ years in application development or systems analysis with emphasis on Java backend architectures.
- Expert Core Java (11/17/21), multithreading, concurrency models, JVM memory model and Collections API.
- Distributed data processing and real-time streaming with Apache Kafka, Spark, Flink, or Hadoop.
- Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security, and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA.
- Database design and performance tuning for SQL stores (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis).
- Strong grasp of distributed systems, caching strategies, and API design for REST and gRPC.
- CI/CD and DevOps practices with Docker, Kubernetes, and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
- Testing with JUnit and Mockito, plus integration testing.
Preferred Skills:
- Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including managed databases and container services.
- Experience in financial services, banking technology, or large-scale transaction systems.
- Unix/Linux, shell scripting, and network configurations.
