Role Title: Google Workspace Migration Architect
Duration: 3 months, with a strong possibility of extension
Preferred Location: remote
Role Description:
We are seeking a senior Google Workspace Migration Architect to lead the planning and technical design for a large-scale transition from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace and Slack.
The architect will define the overall migration approach, technical requirements, sequencing, tooling, resource needs, risks, and cutover strategy. The environment currently includes Microsoft 365, Exchange/Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, and other productivity and collaboration tools. Several legacy platforms are expected to move into read-only status before being fully retired.
This role requires someone who has personally led an enterprise Microsoft 365-to-Google Workspace migration and can provide both strategic architectural leadership and hands-on technical support. The program is moving quickly, so the architect must be able to assess the current environment and produce an actionable migration plan immediately.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead discovery and assessment of the current Microsoft 365, email, file-storage, collaboration, identity, security, and integration environment.
· Develop the end-to-end architecture and migration strategy for moving from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace and Slack.
· Define the recommended approach for migrating email, calendars, contacts, files, permissions, shared drives, collaboration content, and related data.
· Assess Box, OneDrive, and SharePoint content and recommend migration, archival, read-only, retention, or retirement strategies.
· Develop a phased migration roadmap that supports the targeted April 1 completion date.
· Define migration waves, pilots, dependencies, entry and exit criteria, validation steps, and cutover activities.
· Evaluate and recommend migration tools, utilities, automation, and third-party solutions.
· Identify technical requirements across Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft 365, identity and access management, security, compliance, data governance, and integrations.
· Design coexistence and transition approaches to maintain business continuity during the migration.
· Define identity, authentication, user provisioning, group management, permissions, and access-control requirements.
· Address legal hold, data retention, eDiscovery, records management, security, privacy, and regulatory considerations.
· Identify integration dependencies involving Microsoft 365, SharePoint, OneDrive, Box, email, Slack, and other enterprise applications.
Requirements:
· Significant experience architecting and delivering enterprise collaboration and productivity-platform migrations.
· Direct, hands-on experience migrating an organization from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace.
· Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Outlook, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and related administrative capabilities.
· Strong knowledge of Google Workspace, including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Shared Drives, Groups, administration, security, and identity integration.
· Experience planning and executing enterprise email, calendar, file, permission, and collaboration-data migrations.
· Experience assessing SharePoint, OneDrive, Box, or comparable content platforms for migration, archival, and retirement.
· Knowledge of Slack architecture, administration, security, integrations, and enterprise deployment considerations.
· Experience with migration tools, scripting, automation, APIs, and technical troubleshooting.
· Strong understanding of identity and access management, SSO, MFA, provisioning, directory synchronization, and role-based access.
· Knowledge of security, compliance, data retention, eDiscovery, legal hold, privacy, and information-governance requirements.
· Ability to create detailed migration roadmaps, technical designs, resource plans, runbooks, and cutover strategies.
· Ability to work at both the strategic architecture level and the hands-on technical level.
· Strong stakeholder communication and executive-presentation skills.
Must be based in the United States.
