Senior Mainframe Storage Administrator
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Storage Administrator with 12+ years of professional experience supporting IBM z/OS storage environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with IBM z/OS Storage Management, Hitachi Disk Storage (HDS/VSP/USP/VSP G Series), IBM Virtual Tape Systems (VTS/ VTL), DFSMS, SMS, ACS routines, DASD management, storage provisioning, migration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and capacity planning.
The candidate will be responsible for administering and supporting enterprise mainframe storage infrastructure in a 24x7 production environment, troubleshooting complex storage issues, and working closely with system programmers, application teams, and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support IBM mainframe storage infrastructure in a 24x7 enterprise environment.
- Manage and maintain DASD storage using Hitachi Disk Storage (HDS/VSP) and related storage subsystems.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Virtual Tape Systems (VTS/VTL) and physical tape environments.
- Perform storage allocation, provisioning, migration, reclamation, and related storage administration activities.
- Administer and support DFSMS, SMS policies, ACS routines, and storage groups.
- Monitor storage utilization and perform capacity planning and storage optimization.
- Support backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery activities.
- Perform storage performance analysis and tuning to ensure optimal system performance.
- Coordinate storage-related software and hardware upgrades.
- Troubleshoot storage incidents and resolve complex production issues.
- Collaborate with Mainframe System Programmers, application teams, and infrastructure teams during project implementations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and storage standards.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and operational policies.
- Participate in on-call production support and maintenance activities as required.
Required Technical Skills
- 12+ years of experience as a Mainframe Storage Administrator.
- Strong knowledge of IBM z/OS Storage Management.
- Hands-on experience with Hitachi Disk Storage, including:
- HDS
- VSP
- USP
- VSP G Series
- Experience administering IBM Virtual Tape Systems (VTS) and/or Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL).
- Strong understanding of:
- DFSMS
- SMS
- ACS routines
- Storage Groups
- Hands-on experience with DASD management, allocation, migration, reclamation, and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of mainframe backup and recovery processes.
- Experience with storage monitoring and capacity planning.
- Strong troubleshooting and production support experience.
- Experience with storage performance analysis and optimization.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting large-scale 24x7 enterprise mainframe environments.
- Knowledge of storage replication and disaster recovery technologies.
- Experience coordinating storage hardware and software upgrades.
- Strong understanding of enterprise security, audit, and operational compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with system programmers, application teams, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders.
