JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced Lead-level, hands-on SAP IS-U consultant with deep expertise in Device Management (DM) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to support a major utility client in Columbus, Ohio. This role requires someone who can operate at both a leadership/advisory level - engaging stakeholders, guiding a team, and owning solution design - while also being willing and able to personally execute configuration, troubleshooting, and implementation tasks. This is not a purely oversight role; strong hands-on SAP IS-U technical/functional skills are mandatory

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of SAP IS-U Device Management processes, including device installation, removal, replacement, inspection, and certification workflows.
• Own end-to-end AMI integration with SAP IS-U, including meter data acquisition, head-end system (HES) interfaces, meter reading orders, and validation/estimation/editing (VEE) processes.
• Serve as the primary functional/technical lead for Device Management and AMI workstreams, translating business requirements into scalable SAP solutions.
• Provide hands-on configuration, unit testing, and defect resolution - not limited to design documentation.
• Collaborate closely with client business stakeholders, IT teams, and third-party AMI/HES vendors to ensure smooth data flow and process integration.
• Guide and mentor junior/mid-level consultants on the project team; review their configuration and deliverables.
• Support integration touchpoints with Meter Data Management (MDM), Billing, and Customer Service modules within IS-U.
• Troubleshoot production issues related to device lifecycle events, meter reads, and AMI data exceptions.
• Participate in workshops, requirement gathering sessions, and status reviews during onsite weeks in Columbus.
• Document solution designs, configuration specs, and support runbooks.

Required Skills & Experience

• 15+ years of overall SAP experience, with a minimum of 6 years focused specifically on SAP IS-U Device Management and AMI.
• Strong, demonstrable hands-on configuration experience in:
  • SAP IS-U Device Management (installation/removal, device categories, register groups, logical devices)
  • AMI integration (HES interfaces, IDEX/MDUS, meter reading results processing)
  • Meter reading orders, schedules, and reading result validation
• Prior experience working with a utility company (electric, gas, or water) is strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of upstream/downstream integration with Billing, Invoicing, and Customer Service & Sales (CS) in IS-U.
• Experience with VEE (Validation, Estimation & Editing) processes for meter data is a plus.
• Familiarity with third-party AMI/HES platforms (e.g., Itron, Landis+Gyr, Sensus) is a strong plus.
• Prior experience in a lead role - able to independently drive workstreams, interface with client leadership, and manage delivery timelines.
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable presenting to both technical and business stakeholders.
• Experience in a utility client environment in the U.S. is preferred; familiarity with Ohio utility regulatory/business context is a plus.

• SAP S/4HANA Utilities exposure.
• Experience with SAP Cloud for Energy (C4E) or SAP Multichannel Foundation.
• Prior consulting/systems integrator background (Big 4, Accenture, Deloitte, Capgemini, etc.).
