Laptop Worker

Tip of the Day

We've talked before about how cover letters need to be concise and focused. Every paragraph needs to count. Your first paragraph is your introduction. It's where you create a strong impression by introducing yourself, your qualifications and your interest in the position. Include your years of experience and last relevant job title, and be sure to mention the job and company you're applying to by name. Also, bear in mind that numbers stand out, so incorporate them whenever possible. Here's an example of a strong opening paragraph: “As a successful Systems Administrator with 7 years of experience, I'm confident that I would excel as the Senior Systems Administrator for Acme, Inc. My background in project management, networking, and technical support will allow me to make numerous contributions to your company’s success.” From there, you'll use a subsequent paragraph to highlight your key strengths. Your opening is about hooking the reader and getting them to want to learn more.
