The project involves designing and developing a modern, accessible, and maintainable WordPress website that will serve as a key public health resource.
You will work closely with the UX/UI Content Manager and cross-functional stakeholders to build a responsive, secure, and user-friendly website using WordPress core, Elementor, and established third-party plugins.
Responsibilities
- Develop and configure a new WordPress website using WordPress, Elementor, PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Customize WordPress themes and plugins with minimal customization while ensuring long-term maintainability.
- Build reusable, efficient, and well-documented code.
- Implement website features including:
- Site-wide search functionality
- File sharing capabilities
- Mobile-responsive design
- Google Analytics integration
- Rotating homepage banner
- Ensure the website meets WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and web best practices.
- Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, content managers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot front-end and back-end issues and resolve bugs.
- Support content migration from existing WordPress sites.
- Follow the City's Managed WordPress guidelines.
- Provide monthly maintenance, including:
- WordPress, theme, and plugin updates
- Technical support
- Performance monitoring
- Coordination with WP Engine when needed
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in WordPress development, systems analysis, programming, or software development.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- WordPress development
- PHP
- HTML5
- CSS3
- JavaScript
- Theme and plugin development/customization
- Experience building responsive and accessible websites (WCAG AA compliance).
- Understanding of website security, performance optimization, scalability, and testing.
- Experience working with translation/localization frameworks.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Experience working with public sector or government websites.
- Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking abilities.
- Self-motivated and able to manage priorities independently.
