Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Operations Consultant for an opportunity with one of our premier Insurance clients in Boston or New York.
This Operations Consultant provides senior subject matter expertise across the private credit and fund operations lifecycle for the duration of the launch. The consultant brings an independent view on how investment firms organize around a rated note fund serviced by an administrator and helps the internal team produce the operating documentation the launch requires. The role is advisory and hands-on in equal measure.
The role is collaborative by design. The consultant works alongside colleagues in loan operations, fund operations, finance, data and technology rather than in parallel with them, and success depends on bringing those teams to workable answers rather than delivering documents to them. LMI owns program governance, the reporting cadence and all decisions.
Key responsibilities Operating model and process design - Work with the LMI team to define the target state operating model for the fund, including the split of responsibilities between LMI and the fund administrator, at a level of detail sufficient to support the MSA and SLA discussion.
- Help produce operating procedures and playbooks across six workstreams, in partnership with the operations owner for each: cash management, fund administration, monthly and quarterly reporting, compliance and waterfall, rating agency, and loan servicing and reconciliation.
- Help establish standards for how deal terms, modifications and lifecycle events are captured and reflected consistently across systems of record.
- Advise on where work should sit internally rather than with the administrator once the fund is live, and test that view with the teams it affects.
Readiness and risk - Help identify control points, handoffs and exception paths, surface gaps that put the Nov. 1 readiness date at risk, and propose practical solutions that help LMI meet the date.
- Contribute to the operational readiness assessment, and work with each workstream owner on the remediation list that comes out of it.
- Help assess readiness for the specific loan structures in scope and build the processes needed to support them.
Administrator oversight - Help draft and pressure test SLA definitions with the team, including what is measured, by whom and on what frequency.
- Work with LMI colleagues to define the oversight model on the LMI side, including reconciliation points, review responsibilities and escalation paths.
Data and reporting - Help define the loan and fund data required for compliance and waterfall testing, rating agency reporting, and monthly and quarterly reporting, and work with data and technology partners to identify where each element originates.
- Help trace data quality issues to their cause at the structure and standards level, and recommend durable fixes rather than case by case workarounds.
Standard of completion Two tests apply to everything produced in this engagement.
- Procedures and playbooks are developed and validated with the LMI operations person who will do the job.
- RACI and SLA definitions are complete enough to be used directly in the discussion with the fund administrator.
Documentation that has not been walked through with the person who will own the process is not complete.
Qualifications Required - 10+ years in private credit operations, loan operations, fund operations or fund administration, at an asset manager, alternative investment firm, insurance investment arm or administrator.
- Deep working knowledge of the private credit loan lifecycle, including revolving and delayed draw facilities and the operational requirements each creates.
- Demonstrated experience on the client side of a third party fund administrator relationship, including standing up a new mandate and defining the oversight model.
- Track record producing operating procedures, playbooks, RACI and SLA documentation that went into production use.
- Highly effective collaborator in a matrixed organization, able to raise risks and represent stakeholder perspectives constructively, and to work through people who do not report to them.
- Able to operate at both the strategic and tactical levels, moving workstreams forward independently while keeping stakeholders aligned and informed.
Strongly preferred - Direct, hands-on experience with rated note fund or rated note feeder structures, including compliance and waterfall mechanics and the reporting they require.
- Experience with rating agency reporting requirements and the data needed to support them.
- Prior involvement in a fund launch with a hard readiness gate ahead of legal close.
- Familiarity with loan administration systems, IBOR and ABOR environments, and how data flows across a multi-system loan operations infrastructure.
- Knowledge of private credit structures across direct lending, broadly syndicated loans, unitranche and mezzanine.
- Familiarity with third party administrator operating models such as Alter Domus, State Street, SS&C, Citco or Northern Trust.
- Systems exposure to WSO, eFront, Allvue or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with restructures, workouts and distressed exchanges.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, applied to process documentation, synthesis of complex material or pattern identification across large datasets.
- CPA or CFA.
