Job#: 3055903 Job Description: Senior SQL Server Developer / Database ArchitectPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced
Senior SQL Server Developer / Database Architect to lead the design and implementation of database solutions that preserve historical data from two retiring enterprise systems.
This individual will independently design, build, and implement
cloud-hosted SQL Server databases that allow authorized users to easily search and retrieve historical records after the legacy applications have been retired.
The primary project will focus on historical training and certification records, followed by a similar solution for historical grant data.
This is a hands-on, project-focused position that requires someone to own the complete solution, from database architecture and configuration through data loading, user access, documentation, and development of a functional search interface.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement cloud-hosted Microsoft SQL Server databases for long-term historical data storage.
- Develop relational database structures, including tables, relationships, indexes, views, stored procedures, and other database objects.
- Establish a historical repository for training and certification records extracted from Cornerstone LMS.
- Build a second database solution for archived grant management records.
- Load and organize legacy data extracts supplied by internal data resources.
- Develop a simple, user-friendly search interface that lets nontechnical staff find and retrieve historical records.
- Optimize database queries and structures for reliable, efficient data retrieval.
- Configure database security, permissions, and access controls.
- Troubleshoot database, application, and data-related issues independently.
- Create technical documentation supporting future administration and maintenance.
- Deliver a sustainable solution that can continue operating after the engagement is completed.
Required Qualifications- Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server development and database architecture.
- Strong relational database design skills, including schemas, tables, relationships, indexing, and data structures.
- Experience designing and implementing SQL Server databases in cloud-hosted environments.
- Strong SQL/T-SQL development skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, and performance optimization.
- Experience working with legacy SQL data, historical datasets, or system archival initiatives.
- Experience restoring, loading, organizing, and validating data within new database environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing database search interfaces or lightweight applications for nontechnical users.
- Ability to independently architect, build, troubleshoot, and deliver an end-to-end technical solution.
- Strong technical documentation, communication, and knowledge-transfer skills.
Preferred Qualifications- SQL Server administration and database security experience.
- Experience with data archival, application retirement, or legacy system modernization projects.
- ETL or data migration experience.
- Experience developing simple web-based database applications or search interfaces.
- Experience with Cornerstone LMS or similar learning management systems.
- Government or public-sector experience.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a senior-level SQL Server professional who combines the capabilities of a
SQL Developer, Database Architect, and DBA with enough application development experience to create an intuitive front end for business users.
This is not a traditional production-support DBA or reporting-focused SQL position. The successful candidate should be comfortable independently taking a project from requirements through implementation and leaving behind a
stable, well-documented, maintainable solution.
Because this person will serve as the
primary SQL Server technical resource, strong ownership, responsiveness, communication, and proactive status updates are essential.
