Position Description

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION 

The Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) plans, establishes, maintains, improves and promotes public transportation services as well as freight transportation systems in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  DRPT also strategically manages the demand to provide effective and efficient transportation choices for the people of the Commonwealth 

 

 

ABOUT THE POSITION 

The Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Database Administrator.  This position will be responsible for providing database application support services for the agency.  Specifically, the Database Administrator will be responsible for but not limited to server management, database maintenance, and collaborating with all levels of agency staff and external agencies as needed to obtain project requirements and specifications.  This position will provide support to project managers within the information technology division.  This position will act as an assistant agency Database Administrator. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

  • Progressively responsible experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including expertise in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), T-SQL programming, database administrative tasks.  
  • Skilled in maintaining and updating code written by other internal developers 
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment 
  • Ability to troubleshoot, investigate, mitigate, and resolve technical problems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new systems and procedures rapidly 
  • Experience with providing end user technical support and troubleshooting 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Experience with software, hardware, and peripherals installation, support, and troubleshooting 
  • Development experience in building, deploying, and supporting applications using .NET Standard 4.8+ and Visual Basic  
  • ASP.NET (VB), ASP.NET (C#), ASP, HTML, HTML5, jQuery, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON 
  • Ability to translate formal requirements documentation into database and program modules 
  • Experience in server and system administration, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability 
  • Full System Development Life Cycle experience and ability to troubleshoot and maintain code written by other developers 
  • Experience working with Commonwealth of Virginia IT systems and VITA greatly preferred. 
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint 
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Applications and Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
