Senior Virtualization Administrator

Position Description: The Senior Virtualization Administrator or equivalent is responsible for managing and maintaining the agency's virtualized infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the deployment, configuration, and support of virtual environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. The virtual environment includes managing and maintaining on-prem hardware infrastructure (servers and storage), the on-prem hypervisor (vSphere), and cloud infrastructure provided by a CSP provided such as Microsoft Azure.
Years of Experience: 6-7+ years of experience
Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include architecture, complex troubleshooting, overseeing upgrades and migrations, implementing backup and disaster recovery, automation, and providing mentorship to junior staff.
- Designing, building, implementing, and troubleshooting information systems hosted on VMware, AWS, and Azure.
- Leading system upgrades, migrations, and continue to evolve the existing architecture
- Leading the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs) and virtual infrastructure across on-prem and CSP provided data centers.
- Monitoring and optimizing the performance of virtual environments, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
- Diagnosing and resolving complex issues related to virtualization, including VM performance, connectivity, and security.
- Implementing and managing advanced backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual environments.
- Ensuring the security of virtual environments by applying patches, updates, and security configurations.
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation of virtualization configurations, procedures, and policies
- Working closely with other IT teams to support virtualization needs and integrate virtual solutions with other systems.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior virtualization administrators and other IT staff.
- Researching and reporting on new technologies and how they provide value to the organization.
- Implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5-7 yrs leading virtualization administration.
- Demonstrated experience in leading the management of VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies.
- Must have VCF experience.
- Automating IT administration and server provisioning through tools such as Azure DevOps, Azure Automation, Azure CLI, PowerShell, VMWare PowerCLI, and Terraforms.
- Integrating infrastructure tool APIs to enable the deployment of Infrastructure as Code integrated with CI/CD deployment pipelines.
Preferred Skills
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate preferred.
