Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer with 12+ years of enterprise application development experience to support a strategic digital transformation initiative for American Express. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and cloud-native application development, along with excellent communication skills and experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.

Required Skills

8-10 + years of hands-on experience in Java development.
Strong expertise in Java 8/11/17.
Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and the Spring ecosystem.
Strong experience designing and developing Microservices.
Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs.
Solid knowledge of Multithreading, Concurrency, and the Collections Framework.
Strong SQL skills with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
Experience with Hibernate/JPA.
Proficiency with Git, Maven, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
Experience with Apache Kafka or other messaging platforms.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
Strong understanding of design patterns, performance tuning, and secure coding practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Banking, Financial Services, or Payments.
Exposure to high-volume transaction processing systems.
Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API security.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, or Prometheus is a plus.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based enterprise applications.
Develop secure, high-performance REST APIs and microservices.
Collaborate with architects, product owners, and cross-functional teams to deliver business-critical solutions.
Integrate applications with messaging systems and cloud services.
Troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, and ensure system reliability.
Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical mentoring.
Contribute to CI/CD automation and DevOps best practices.

Mandatory Requirements

10+ years of Java development experience.
Local to Arizona (Phoenix Metro preferred).
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work in a hybrid model and attend onsite meetings as required.
Previous experience with enterprise-scale applications is highly preferred.
