Role Overview
This role supports the technology behind our non-nuclear generation fleet, ensuring it is reliable, secure, and ready for the future. As an IT Controls Engineer, you will support the systems that power renewable and fossil generation facilities, making sure operators have dependable tools to safely generate electricity every day. Your work directly supports the mission to deliver safe, reliable energy to communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain fossil and renewable generation human to machine interface (HMI) systems within a process control environment.
- Drive restoration of HMI/SCADA systems impacting generation operations.
- Execute HMI lifecycle replacement and upgrade projects across the generation fleet.
- Interface with vendors for support and engineering of systems during projects and upgrades.
- Troubleshoot industrial communication protocols to ensure data flow within engineering and operating systems.
- Support Linux and other non-Windows devices within an energy management system (EMS) at renewable generation facilities.
- Provide higher-level support to help desk personnel or other engineers/analysts.
- Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call support schedule for mission-critical applications.
- Serve as the primary on-site IT/OT representative for generation facilities, acting as the main coordination point between Generation IT, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, and plant operations.
Required Qualifications
General Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, plus five (5) years of prior relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas.
- Experience supporting IT infrastructure and applications in an operational or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of renewable generation systems (primary) and fossil generation systems (secondary).
- Background working with SCADA or similar operational technology environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel to generation sites.
- A collaborative, service-oriented mindset with a focus on reliability, safety, and customer support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in maintaining and troubleshooting SCADA HMI platforms in renewable and fossil generation environments.
- Skilled in configuring and supporting industrial control-system communications using protocols such as SEL, Modbus, DNP3, and OPC.
- Proficient in server administration across virtualized and physical environments for both Windows and Linux systems.
- Hands-on experience managing and supporting Active Directory, including user/group administration and policy management.
- Experience providing network support, including troubleshooting, configuration, and performance monitoring.
- Experience with battery management systems, including troubleshooting and vendor interfacing.
- Knowledge of infrastructure technologies (compute, storage, networking), COTS and open-source packages, and cloud solutions (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Ability to develop technical documentation and evaluate emerging technologies.
