Job#: 3049307 Job Description: Windows Vulnerability Remediation Engineer
Position SummaryBrown University Health is seeking a senior-level Windows Vulnerability Remediation Engineer to support a large-scale initiative focused on reducing infrastructure security risk across thousands of enterprise Windows servers. This role will be dedicated to identifying, investigating, and remediating persistent vulnerabilities that cannot be resolved through standard patching and automation processes.
The ideal candidate will possess deep Windows Server expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and experience navigating complex application dependencies involving technologies such as .NET, Java, and legacy server platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Review and remediate vulnerabilities identified through Qualys and enterprise security reporting tools.
- Analyze recurring security findings and develop sustainable remediation strategies.
- Troubleshoot Windows Server vulnerabilities that require manual investigation and root cause analysis.
- Coordinate application downtime, maintenance windows, server reboots, and remediation activities.
- Evaluate Java, .NET, and application dependencies impacting vulnerability resolution efforts.
- Work directly with application owners, infrastructure teams, security teams, and vendors.
- Escalate complex technical issues to Microsoft and third-party software vendors when required.
- Assist in reducing the enterprise vulnerability backlog across Windows Server environments.
- Document findings, remediation efforts, risks, and recommendations.
Required Qualifications- 7+ years of Windows Server Engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and newer platforms.
- Experience with enterprise vulnerability management and remediation.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise server environments.
- Knowledge of patch management, system hardening, and security best practices.
- Experience coordinating maintenance windows and application downtime activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Qualys or similar vulnerability management platforms.
- Experience supporting healthcare or other highly regulated environments.
- Hands-on experience with Java and .NET application dependencies.
- Familiarity with server modernization and operating system lifecycle management.
- Experience working directly with Microsoft support organizations.
