Job Title: Senior User Experience Accessibility Specialist
Location: Remote/WFH
Duration: 5 months+ contract
Description:
- The UX Accessibility Specialist ensures the client's digital products are accessible and usable for clients, branch teams and colleagues. They use their knowledge of disability, assistive technology, internationally recognized accessibility standards (WCAG), and industry best practices to guide accessible product design, development, and procurement decisions. They may partner with various stakeholders including Product, Technology, UX, Sourcing, and Legal. The UX Accessibility Specialist helps create optimal user experiences for users of all abilities by understanding business requirements and constraints and aligning digital experiences with the Edward Jones Accessibility Standards to make products that exceed user’s expectations both in terms of their design and functionality.
Qualifications:
- Advocate for the user throughout the design and development process, ensure solutions address real user needs and contribute to seamless, intuitive experiences.
- Evaluate the current state of the user experience. Identify, user pain points, and align with product goals and technical constraints. This includes manual and automated accessibility testing, reporting on findings and recommending solutions.
- Advise various stakeholders, including product, technology and or business leadership on business and accessibility tradeoffs, as well as the impact design, development and procurement decisions may have on users with disabilities.
- Assist in the prioritization of accessibility defects and enhancements.
- Guide Developers on accessible development practices. Using knowledge of HTML, CSS, and ARIA.
- Embed accessibility into product team processes and protocols, driving improvements to accessibility maturity.
- Create accessibility annotations for development, including, call outs for keyboard interaction, screen reader announcements, ARIA guidance, etc.
- Create and lead digital accessibility training that empowers colleagues to incorporate accessibility into their own work.
- Lead efforts to improve cross accessibility team alignment by facilitating updates to team documentation on patterns and components.
- Take ownership in helping mature the accessibility discipline by proposing and leading accessibility program level initiatives that contribute to quality, consistency, and efficiency in accessibility work.
- Mentor and support fellow UX Accessibility Specialists and help foster an environment of equity and inclusion.
- Conduct accessibility audits for mobile and native applications, ensuring compliance across platforms.
- Utilize AI accessibility tools to enhance testing and remediation.
- Facilitate inclusive design workshops and contribute to accessibility standards within design systems.
- Serve as a consultant for strategic guidance on legal and compliance implications of accessibility decisions.
Skills:
Minimum: Assistive technology such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, keyboard navigation, Windows high contrast mode, Automated accessibility testing tools such as: Axe and Wave, Disability inclusion methodologies, Business Acumen, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Preferred: Agile Methodologies, Branch systems and tools, User experience methodologies and tools
Minimum: Accessibility & Inclusive Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Problem Solving, Relationship Building, User Acceptance Testing, User-centered Design
Preferred: Software Development, Storytelling, Usability Testing, User Experience Strategy, User Interface Design
