Job Title: Project Manager - Electric Grid Interconnection

Job Summary
The Project Manager - Electric Grid Interconnection will lead and coordinate utility-scale electric grid interconnection projects on a contract basis. This fully remote role focuses on managing interconnection applications, studies, engineering coordination, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder communication across utilities, ISOs/RTOs, developers, and engineering consultants.
The ideal candidate brings strong project management expertise within the power and energy sector and can independently drive interconnection projects through complex utility and regulatory processes.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
Manage multiple electric grid interconnection projects from application through commissioning.
Develop and maintain project schedules, trackers, budgets, and risk logs.
Ensure project milestones align with utility and ISO/RTO timelines.
Utility & Stakeholder Coordination
Serve as primary liaison with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, regulators, EPCs, and consultants.
Prepare, submit, and track interconnection applications, study requests, and data responses.
Coordinate meetings, reviews, and technical discussions remotely.
Engineering & Technical Oversight
Coordinate engineering scopes for substations, transmission/distribution upgrades, protection systems, and SCADA.
Review engineering studies and deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance.
Support power system studies including load flow, short circuit, and stability analyses.
Regulatory & Compliance Management
Ensure compliance with FERC, NERC, state utility commissions, and local utility requirements.
Support negotiation and execution of Interconnection Agreements (IA) and related contracts.
Track regulatory approvals and manage compliance documentation.
Construction & Commissioning Support
Coordinate remotely with EPC and construction teams during execution.
Monitor progress, manage change orders, and resolve schedule or scope issues.
Support testing, energization, and final commissioning activities.
Reporting & Risk Management
Provide regular remote status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies proactively.
Maintain organized documentation and project close-out materials.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Engineering Management, or related field
5+ years of experience managing electric grid interconnection or utility-scale energy projects
Proven experience working remotely with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and engineering teams
Strong understanding of:
Power system interconnection processes
Transmission and distribution systems
Substation and protection fundamentals
Proficiency with remote collaboration and PM tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, Primavera, Jira, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with renewable energy, battery energy storage, or data center interconnections
Knowledge of FERC LGIP/LGIA or SGIP/SGIA processes
PMP or equivalent certification
Experience managing EPC contractors on a contract basis
Familiarity with SCADA, EMS, and grid modernization initiatives
