Who We Are:The Solar System Science and Exploration Division, based in the SwRI Boulder office, is comprised of scientists, engineers, IT professionals, and program staff supporting basic science research, instrument development, and space mission management and operations. We are a vibrant, collaborative, and world-class group located in a beautiful facility in downtown Boulder. The Division's IT team maintains the office and mission networks used by roughly 120 staff who use a range of platforms operating systems and software packages.
Objectives of this Role: - Lead all technical and administrative aspects of the Division IT team, a group of IT professionals with diverse skills, tasks, and cross-training.
- Contribute to and execute the IT vision, strategy, and innovation roadmap for the Division. This involves collecting and reviewing the user and business requirements and developing a comprehensive strategy.
- Manage the development and enforcement of cybersecurity configurations and best practices for data security and integrity, and steer the IT team through an upcoming major security audit over the next two years.
- Balance increasing security and audit demands, IT maturity and standardization, and diverse needs and workflows of the primarily science and engineering users.
- Define the interface of local IT systems with the Institute-wide systems, and represent the Division IT usage and needs
- Provide leadership beyond that typical for an enterprise IT management position, including providing hands-on solutions to support both ongoing and new science, engineering, and mission work of the Division while maintaining evolving compliance standards.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: - Manage IT budget, purchasing, and personnel.
- Oversight of teams working on security and audits.
- Serve as the lead representative for Division IT to the SwRI-wide ITC (Information Technology Center) group.
- Attend online meetings with IT teams from the SwRI headquarters in San Antonio and with external groups (e.g. auditors).
- Collect and coordinate requests from various users and projects for IT needs, and provide information to Division staff about IT guidelines and issues.
- Work as part of Division upper management team representing the Division IT team.
Requirements: - Requires a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or related degree field with directly related work experience.
- ITIL Certification is strongly desired, and PMP Certification is a plus.
- 15 years: Experience in computer/IT related field. Prior experience in providing IT support to a scientific, research, and/or technical group is a strong plus.
- 10 years: Experience in technology leadership roles, with a proven track record of implementing diverse sets of technologies. Strong familiarity across multiple operating systems e.g., Windows, Mac, and Linux, and virtualization.
- Demonstrated experience in IT technology, project management, managing an IT team, working with audit and security requirements, promoting and leading projects of considerable complexity and size, normally involving several technical teams, clients, and teaming arrangements.
- Demonstrated experience in managing enterprise-level technology projects that includes industry security compliance frameworks and best practices, while finding the middle ground between competing requirements and user needs. Strong ability and interest in problem solving.
- A valid/clear driver's license is required.
