Robotics and Controls Engineer
Introduction:
The Robotics and Controls Engineer plays a vital role in the Top Tier product manufacturing team. This position requires a motivated, innovative individual who is enthusiastic about configuring, building, and supporting capital equipment. The successful candidate will have a well-rounded background to balance the mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing aspects of the role. They must possess excellent technical skills and a thorough understanding of machine safety and guarding. The Robotics and Controls Engineer will be responsible for implementing robust system architecture and custom control system solutions for customers in various end-of-line packaging applications.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize experience and knowledge of PLC programming, HMI programming, control, and electrical systems to standardize and improve current systems.
- Work in cross-functional teams for product manufacturing.
- Prepare and review electrical CAD drawings of control systems to ensure compliance with standards and customer requirements.
- Perform electrical and controls programming.
- Direct or coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to meet specifications and customer requirements.
- Provide tier 2 technical support for the Service Department.
- Compile data and produce reports on new, existing, or potential projects.
- Perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, operational, or installation standards.
- Prepare specifications for material or equipment purchases.
- Estimate labor, material, or construction costs for project estimating.
- Communicate effectively with customers to meet expectations.
- Oversee project production to ensure on-time and within budget completion.
- Collaborate with various departments to resolve issues and achieve goals.
- Manage component selection and bill of materials.
- Drive design for manufacturability, lean applications, change management, and revision control.
- Maintain confidentiality and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Travel to customer sites for commissioning or troubleshooting as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and recommend enhancements.
- Comply with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
- Support the company in other assigned duties.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in electro-mechanical product design.
- AA/BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience with AutoCAD and EPLAN for electrical schematic design.
- Knowledge of HMI, PLC, controls programming, servo systems, VFDs, and robotics (AB/Rockwell, Fanuc).
- Familiarity with software such as Rockwell Logix Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View/View Designer, Fanuc Robotics, and B&R PLC/Motion Control.
- Experience with capital equipment design, production, testing, and installation.
- Understanding of industry standards for machinery safety and guarding.
- Proficiency in MS Office and ERP/MRP software.
- Analytical with attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
