Description: Job Summary We are looking for a
Transmission Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and support of advanced aircraft drive systems. In this role, you will work on components such as gears, bearings, seals, housings, lubrication systems, and drive shafts, leveraging both traditional manufacturing methods (machining, castings, forgings) and emerging technologies like additive manufacturing.
You will be responsible for creating conceptual layouts, performing preliminary component sizing, preparing drawing revisions, Engineering Change Orders, and specification updates. Additional tasks include detail design tolerancing/stack-ups and preparing engineering instructions. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams including analysts, material and process engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers, and suppliers to deliver high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities - Design and develop transmission components and systems for aircraft applications.
- Prepare and revise engineering drawings, specifications, and instructions.
- Perform preliminary sizing, tolerance analysis, and stack-up calculations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts during development and production phases.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in mechanical component design and manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CATIA for 3D modeling and design.
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing principles.
- 4-6 years of experience in transmission systems design.
Preferred Qualifications - Understanding of loading and dynamics in mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to manage complex tasks and deliver results under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing.
