Job Description : ' Reporting to the Operations Director, the Data Center Technician supports the operation, reliability, and performance of mission-critical data center infrastructure that underpins electronic trading platforms and real-time market operations. The Data Center Technician, as a member of the IT Operations team, manages the infrastructure deployed within the data centers. Tasks include installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical IT infrastructure like servers, storage, and network gear, ensuring optimal performance, security, and uptime through hands-on hardware management, software updates, monitoring, cabling, and rapid response to incidents. The Data Center Technician will hold a crucial hands-on role that will ensure that BOX infrastructure systems are performing optimally.
Responsibilities : Data Center Operations Monitor, maintain, and support data center infrastructure including servers, network devices, storage, cabling, power,
and cooling systems
Perform hardware installation, decommissioning, and break/fix activities for trading, market data, and core
infrastructure systems
Receive, inventory, install, rack, stack, configure, and troubleshoot servers, switches, routers, and storage systems.
Continuously monitor environmental controls (cooling, power), space usage, and proactively address issues to
prevent downtime or capacity constraints.
Open tickets for incoming equipment and manage delivery to the cage.
Deploying new servers or decommissioning old ones.
Performing cable runs or patching connections.
Checking environmental sensors and power distribution.
Performing scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
Help diagnose and resolve hardware, network, and system problems efficiently.
Run, organize, and manage complex cabling infrastructure (copper, fiber).
Assist with software deployment, updates, and patching for operating systems and applications.
Implement and uphold security protocols, manage access, and monitor for unauthorized activity.
Work with network engineers, systems administrators, and other IT teams.
Incident & Change Management Respond to incidents impacting trading systems with urgency and precision, following established escalation and
communication protocols.
Perform first-line diagnostics and hands-on support during outages, maintenance windows, and trading-impacting
events.
Support planned changes, upgrades, and migrations while minimizing risk to production systems.
Log all tasks, incidents, resolutions, and maintain accurate records.
Trading Environment Support Provide on-site and remote hands support for low-latency trading infrastructure
Work closely with network, systems, and trading support teams to ensure optimal system performance
Support connectivity to clients, external partners and between data centers
Compliance & Documentation Follow change management, access control, and operational procedures aligned with regulatory and audit
requirements
Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, diagrams, and inventory records
Adhere to security, health & safety, and data center best practices
Required Skills: - 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience in critical operational environments.
- Experience in the financial industry.
- Exposure to regulatory requirements in financial services (e.g., audit readiness, access controls)
- Ability to excel in a highly regulated and fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with automation or scripting
- Strong hands-on experience with server and network hardware (HPE Cisco, Fortinet)
- Solid understanding of data center networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, fiber/copper cabling)
- Experience with power and cooling infrastructure (PDUs, hot/cold aisles)
- Ability to use monitoring, ticketing, and asset management tools
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and organization.
- Ability to work under pressure and after hours.
- Ability to travel to the data centers (New Jersey and Chicago).
- Understanding of basic networking and security.
