Work as member of Team to do in-field GIS data collection and make educated in-field design suggestions based on field data. Work environment will be 90% in-field.
This job will be a great first step into electric distribution and will provide a valuable foundation for a career in the power delivery industry.
Team member will use a hasting stick (hotstick) to measure Joint Use attachment heights & utility-owned distribution lines/attachments.
Field data will be collected via iPad using proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations. Team member drive/travel to project sites via rental vehicle. Team member may need to keep rental car overnight or for extended periods. Inability to keep a rental car stored, in a safe location, needs to be clearly communicated.
Travel throughout regions in Virginia and North Carolina may require regular, weekly overnight travel. All candidates must understand the in-field time and regular overnight travel requirements needed to complete this role.
Experience using Esri's ArcGIS suite or other GIS software required. In-field experience preferred. Experience in AutoCAD, AUD and/or other data collection software is a plus.
As needed, storm response and mobilization is required when extreme weather events occur.

Use GIS/CAD software to support electric distribution projects and data maintenance for higher complexity and priority projects.
Reference as-builts, work management logs, & other documentation to update GIS data to reflect electric distribution construction completed in the field
Identify data inconsistencies and communicate with the appropriate resources to provide accurate data updates to client systems
Obtain and manipulate GIS data at state and municipality level
Participate and collaborate in meetings between teammates, clients, and other stakeholders
Ability to work in an Agile team environment where collaboration and receptiveness to feedback are essential to producing high quality work to meet Leidos & clients standards..
Complete engineering design work and provide deliverables to Client.

Basic Qualifications:
Requires HS Diploma or equivalent and 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Willingness to perform both field and office work. Overnight travel may be required (10-20% travel)
Ability to work in outdoor environments; GIS Techs will perform field data collection
Ability to utilize personal vehicle
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, etc
Knowledge of Utility Client Standards preferred. GIS Tech Software
Experience in one or more programs is preferred:
GIS Software such as Small World, Esri Suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcIMS, ArcWeb services and ArcGIS Server), QGIS
CAD Software such as Bentley Systems (MicroStation), Autodesk (AutoCAD, Maya, Civil 3D)
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, etc.) required.
