Job Title: Network Architect
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates in Chicago, IL or Buffalo, NY)
Work Mode: Remote (location preference only)

Role Overview

HSBC Bank is seeking a Network Architect to design and deliver modern, scalable network solutions supporting enterprise data centers, private cloud, and public cloud environments. This role requires deep expertise in data center networking, cloud connectivity, Kubernetes networking, and automation, along with strong stakeholder communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Design enterprise-grade network solutions for data centers, private cloud, and public cloud platforms

• Build, prototype, and validate network designs through hands-on engineering, labs, PoCs, and automation-driven implementations

• Define and evolve reference architectures, standards, and design patterns for hybrid-cloud and cloud-native networking

• Embed Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation principles into network designs

• Design modern application platforms grounded in data center networking fundamentals (L2/L3, routing, segmentation, HA)

• Architect and support EVPN/VXLAN fabrics and modern spine-leaf architectures

• Partner with cloud, platform, security, and application teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions

• Produce clear, decision-oriented design documentation and participate in architecture review forums

• Evaluate and recommend emerging networking, cloud, and automation technologies

Required Skills

<>Networking

• Data Center Networking

  • Leaf-Spine architecture, SDN, automation

  • EVPN/VXLAN, BGP, VPNs

  • Cisco ACI or Arista-based fabrics

• Core Networking

  • MPLS, DWDM, BGP, high-capacity optical networks

• Kubernetes Networking

  • Deep knowledge of CNIs such as Cilium, Calico, or OVN-K

  • BGP peering between Kubernetes clusters and DC fabrics

  • Ingress design, traffic engineering, and load balancing for Kubernetes workloads

<>Cloud & Connectivity

• Large-scale cloud connectivity using:

  • AWS Direct Connect

  • Azure ExpressRoute

  • Google Cloud Interconnect

• Experience with Network-as-a-Service providers (Equinix Fabric, Megaport, or equivalent)

• Exposure to all three major CSPs preferred

<>Automation & Programming

• Strong experience with Terraform or Ansible (at least one required)

• Solid understanding of IaC and configuration-as-code

• Working knowledge of Python or Go (scripting, tooling, integrations)

<>Observability & Operations

• Network and application observability tools such as:

  • Splunk, Prometheus, ThousandEyes, Kentik, or similar

• Strong troubleshooting skills across complex enterprise environments

<>Soft Skills

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

• Ability to work with senior engineers, architects, and business stakeholders

• Strong presentation skills and ability to influence architectural decisions

• Comfortable operating in a large, complex enterprise environment like HSBC

Nice to Have

• SD-WAN and SASE architecture exposure

• Zero Trust networking and identity-based access models

• CDN and global traffic optimization experience

• DNS architecture (public, private, hybrid)

• Experience working with platform engineering or internal developer platform teams
