Role Overview
The Technical Data Steward (TDS) is responsible for the technical management, governance, security, and optimization of data assets across Workplace Infrastructure & Logistics (WIL). This role serves as the primary technical authority for data governance within WIL, ensuring data is properly defined, compliant, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards.
The TDS works closely with Business Data Owners, divisional data stewards, Enterprise Data Governance (EDG), and technology teams to support operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Data Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for technical data questions and issues across WIL divisions.
- Capture, maintain, and document data lineage, technical metadata, and data dictionaries for WIL data assets.
- Provide technical data recommendations on behalf of Business Data Owners, balancing business needs with technical and compliance requirements.
- Perform light data transformations and support metadata quality monitoring.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Implement and enforce information security standards, including encryption, role-based access controls (RBAC), and data protection controls.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise governance and risk frameworks, including EDG, DRG, RIM, EORM, and IMPO, adapting to evolving standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for compliance across WIL systems and processes.
- Track, audit, and manage WIL data assets, ensuring timely delivery of governance-related artifacts and reporting.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with divisional Technical Data Stewards, Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), and EDG/DRG teams on all technical governance activities.
- Collaborate with Business Data Stewards, Managing Data Stewards, and technical support teams to resolve data issues and deploy solutions.
- Clearly communicate data governance decisions and ensure technology teams understand downstream impacts.
- Facilitate education and alignment through meetings, training sessions, and governance communications.
Operational Excellence
- Support complex data analysis to inform governance decisions and improve data quality.
- Enable execution of enterprise data governance policies through appropriate technical solutions.
- Identify skill gaps within technical data stewardship and advocate for training and continuous improvement.
Special Projects & Systems
- Support special initiatives related to workplace systems, data quality improvements, and system or device integrations.
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts to align WIL with enterprise data governance and risk management goals.
- Collaborate with technology security teams on annual and ad hoc compliance and risk initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5–10 years of experience in:
- Data cataloging and metadata management
- Business glossaries and data lineage
- Master data management
- Metadata quality monitoring
- Demonstrated experience implementing data governance practices in complex, enterprise environments.
- Strong analytical, communication, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic governance landscape while balancing technical and business priorities.
Preferred
- Experience with workplace infrastructure or facility management systems.
- Familiarity with enterprise compliance frameworks and data governance trends.
- Background supporting operational, administrative, or infrastructure-focused data environments.
