Position Summary:
The Aetna IT Delivery organization, part of CVS Health's Data, Digital, Analytics, Technology (DDAT) division, is seeking a Conversational AI Engineer specializing in IBM Watson Orchestrate AI technologies.
This role will drive the end-to-end user experience for a next-generation Conversational AI platform designed to support members and providers by delivering timely, accurate health insurance answers across multiple digital channels.
You will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing rich conversational experiences using IBM's Conversational AI stack, while integrating enterprise data sources to deliver context-aware, reliable responses.
This position requires close collaboration with Product, UI/UX, and Backend Engineering teams to define requirements, influence features, and ensure scalable, user-centric conversational solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop AI-driven conversational flows with responses retrieved from external APIs through cloud functions or enterprise system integrations.
- Apply clean coding principles and software engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers and backend integration teams to understand chatbot usage patterns and define requirements for intent fulfillment.
- Work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain chatbot solutions.
- Troubleshoot chatbot issues, debug workflows, and deploy conversational solutions across multiple channels (chat/voice).
- Leverage AI, NLP technologies, and cognitive machine learning techniques to enhance chatbot performance.
- Integrate chatbot solutions with multiple platforms and enterprise applications.
- Improve user effectiveness through adoption of advanced conversational AI technologies.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and analytics methods, supporting business development opportunities as needed.
- Tune and enhance Speech-to-Text (STT) models for improved voice experience accuracy.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of software delivery experience.
- 3+ years of chatbot development experience using IBM Watson Orchestrate or similar Conversational AI platforms (e.g., Google Dialogflow CX, LivePerson, Amazon Lex, Kore.ai).
- 3+ years of experience training and improving intent recognition through training dataset curation.
- 3+ years applying Conversational AI best practices (NLP, training data optimization, conversation design standards).
- 1+ year of experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, unit testing, and source code management.
- 1+ year of knowledge of cloud development and deployment principles.
- 1+ year of backend/server-side development experience in Java, Node.js, or Python.
- 1+ year of multi-language experience in JavaScript/TypeScript.
- 1+ year working in an Agile environment, with knowledge of DevOps practices, end-to-end SDLC processes, and business requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with IBM Watson Speech-to-Text, Watson Discovery, or similar voice processing and information retrieval tools.
- Familiarity with SSML (Speech Synthesis Markup Language) tagging for improving Text-to-Speech (TTS) quality.
- Experience integrating unstructured data sources (e.g., semantic search, document retrieval using embeddings) into conversational AI agents.
