Job Description:
In this role, the Senior Site/Civil Engineer will conduct site feasibility evaluations and lead the design, engineering, permitting, and construction efforts for substation site development projects from initial concept through final completion. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in civil site design, proven project management experience, and exceptional communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple civil site engineering projects from conception through construction, ensuring adherence to quality standards, budgets, and schedules.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Apply knowledge of local, state, and federal land use permitting processes (experience in this area is a plus).
- Prepare and review engineering designs, reports, and technical documentation for both internal and external submissions.
- Utilize reports, FEMA maps, engineering drawings, test data, aerial imagery, and other resources to evaluate terrain, hydrology, topography, and geology for site feasibility studies.
- Develop cost estimates, perform cost analyses, and prepare bid packages.
- Lead pre-bid meetings and provide recommendations for contract awards.
- Evaluate proposals, bids, and contractor qualifications.
- Mentor and guide project teams, including junior engineers and support staff.
- Partner with cross functional groups and external stakeholders to deliver comprehensive engineering solutions.
- Ensure project quality and compliance with regulatory standards, industry best practices, and company policies.
- Manage contract engineering resources and oversee related project management activities.
- Participate in kickoff meetings and conduct site visits to support project work and constructability evaluations.
- Support construction, operations, and maintenance teams for substation infrastructure through effective coordination with field personnel and contractors.
- Interface with inspectors, engineers, construction teams, warehouse personnel, purchasing, vendors, and leadership on materials, standards, procurement, and packaging considerations.
- Perform accurate engineering calculations and analyses.
- Develop design options and recommendations for substation site layouts.
- Assess new and existing technologies, engineering methodologies, and operational practices for continuous system improvement.
- Produce technical reports documenting analysis findings and engineering recommendations.
- Conduct field inspections before, during, and after construction.
- Utilize appropriate engineering software and platforms effectively.
- Engage in professional development opportunities and take on stretch assignments to broaden technical and leadership capabilities.
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Qualifications
- Minimum of four (4) years of relevant site engineering or land development experience.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D required.
- Proficiency in MicroStation preferred.
