Data Business Intelligence Analyst
(Please note this role is analytics and business facing, not a traditional data engineering or ETL focused role.)
Role Overview (High Level)
This position is a BI-heavy, business-facing role that supports day-to-day operational reporting and insights for the Retail organization. The role is not project-based and does not focus on large-scale data migrations, platform-to-platform work, or third-party data ingestion.
The expected skill balance is approximately:
- 70% Business Intelligence / Analytics
- 30% Data Engineering
What We Are Prioritizing
Please prioritize candidates who demonstrate:
- Strong business intelligence and data analysis experience
- 4+ years of professional BI and analytics experience is critical
- Candidates lacking this depth will not be a fit
- Hands-on experience with visualization and reporting tools
- Tableau and/or Power BI
- Preference for 4+ years of dashboarding and reporting experience
- Business-facing experience
- Regular interaction with stakeholders
- Translating business questions into dashboards and insights
- Supporting operational and enterprise-driven changes (not long-term project work)
- Programming experience
- Hands-on experience with SAS, R, or Python is a must
- Industry experience (strongly preferred)
- Utility experience, particularly supporting marketing campaigns, customer data, and retail operations
- Candidates without utility experience may face a steep learning curve and are less likely to be successful
Technology Expectations
- SQL: Required
- SAS / R / Python: Required
- Databricks & Google Cloud Platform:
- Experience is helpful, but less than 2 years is acceptable
- Candidates coming from a heavily IT-driven environment may not be a fit for this role
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Has a strong BI and analytics background
- Is comfortable working directly with business partners
- Has supported utility or retail energy marketing initiatives
- Can quickly interpret business needs and adjust dashboards accordingly
- Is not seeking a deeply technical or engineering-only role
What to Avoid
Please avoid submitting candidates whose backgrounds are primarily focused on:
- Data migrations or moving data between platforms
- ETL-heavy or backend pipeline ownership
- Data model QA or third-party data ingestion workflows
- Infrastructure- or IT-centric roles with limited business interaction
