Summary
Role: Sr. UI Architect
Location: Marlborough, MA (Hybrid)
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled UI Architect with deep expertise in ReactJS to establish, enforce, and optimize front-end architectural standards across our growing application ecosystem. You will be responsible for establishing and enforcing best practices in UI development, collaborating and ensuring visual and functional consistency across our distributed teams to newly defined architecture standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish UI Architecture Standards
Define and enforce ReactJS conventions, including the use of Module Federation for micro-frontends, shared dependencies, versioning strategies, and rollback mechanisms.
Establish clear guidelines to ensure consistency and scalability across all UI components and modules.
Ensure Reliability & Observability
Define Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for page errors and Web Vitals to monitor and ensure application reliability and performance.
Implement Real User Monitoring (RUM), logging, and error tracking to identify issues in real-time.
Design and implement graceful fallback strategies for remote failures, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Drive Performance Optimization
Set and enforce performance budgets across development teams.
Implement Lighthouse CI checks to ensure continuous performance improvement.
Drive key optimizations such as code splitting, critical-path rendering improvements, and lazy loading to reduce page load times.
Standardize Code Quality
Enforce TypeScript, ESLint, and other best practices for static analysis to ensure clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
Implement and oversee unit and end-to-end (E2E) testing practices.
Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards for all UI components.
Own the Design System
Lead the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a scalable, token-based design system that ensures visual consistency across all remote and distributed teams.
Manage UI component libraries to facilitate easy adoption of design standards across teams.
Champion Responsive Design
Define and enforce standards for responsive grids, fluid typography, and container queries to ensure an optimal user experience across devices and screen sizes.
Optimize Image & Media Usage
Implement next-generation image formats (e.g., WebP, AVIF) to reduce asset sizes and improve performance.
Implement responsive srcset attributes, lazy loading, and CDN-based optimization to improve load times and reduce bandwidth usage.
Improve Resource Loading
Govern and optimize the usage of third-party scripts, ensuring they are asynchronously loaded and prioritized appropriately.
Minimize the usage of global state and optimize data loading strategies to reduce data waterfalls and improve application performance.
Enhance Security & Compliance
Apply Content Security Policy (CSP), integrity checks, and perform regular dependency audits to ensure the security of the front-end application.
Ensure strict handling of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and compliance with security best practices in the frontend.
Support Delivery, SEO & Operations
Support canary deployments, feature flags, and ensure seamless integration with backend deployment workflows.
Optimize Server-Side Rendering (SSR) for SEO, implement structured data (e.g., JSON-LD), and ensure that all front-end performance KPIs are met.
Qualifications:
Experience:
10+ years of experience in UI development with at least 4+ years specializing in ReactJS and front-end architecture.
Strong background in implementing React at scale, including optimization techniques, performance monitoring, and component-based design.
Skills & Expertise:
Deep experience with Module Federation and micro-frontend architectures.
Proficiency in TypeScript, ESLint, unit and E2E testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress).
In-depth knowledge of performance optimization strategies, including Lighthouse, code-splitting, and critical-path rendering.
Familiarity with Web Vitals, RUM, log aggregation tools, and real-time observability.
Understanding of responsive design, CSS Grid, container queries, and fluid typography for cross-device consistency.
Strong knowledge of image and media optimization (e.g., WebP, AVIF, responsive srcset).
Expertise in security best practices, including CSP, integrity checks, and dependency management.
Experience with SEO optimization for front-end applications and knowledge of SSR.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor offshore teams.
Ability to drive consensus and align cross-functional teams towards architectural goals.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with modern AWS cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of back-end technologies (e.g., Node.js, GraphQL) and full-stack integration.
Experience with design systems and UI component libraries.
Familiarity with Accessibility tools and best practices (e.g., axe-core, Lighthouse).
