As a Permanent Packaging Engineer in our manufacturing department, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, testing, and implementation of our packaging solutions. You will be responsible for translating customer requirements into technical specifications, CAD drawings, prototypes, and production-ready designs. This role will require a strong understanding of packaging materials and manufacturing processes, as well as proficiency with CAD/CAM software. You will also have the opportunity to lead packaging development projects, identify and implement material savings, and troubleshoot production issues.
Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer packaging solutions optimized for manufacturability, performance, and cost.
- Translate customer requirements into technical specifications, CAD drawings, prototypes, and production-ready designs.
- Support manufacturing teams with tooling design, material selection, and process optimization.
- Lead packaging development projects, including testing, validation, and line trials.
- Identify and implement material savings, process improvements, and packaging innovations.
- Develop and maintain documentation such as BOMs, specifications, quality standards, and test results.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to design, material performance, or process variation.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards and customer requirements for safety, durability, and sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in packaging, estimating, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes such as corrugate converting, extrusion, thermoforming, die cutting, printing, and laminating.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Understanding of packaging performance testing and standards (ISTA, ASTM).
- Estimation experience or willingness to learn and take on estimating responsibilities.
- Ability to translate customer requirements into technical specifications, CAD drawings, prototypes, and production-ready designs.
- Experience supporting manufacturing teams with tooling design, material selection, and process optimization.
- Proven ability to lead packaging development projects, including testing, validation, and line trials.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement material savings, process improvements, and packaging innovations.
- Experience developing and maintaining documentation such as BOMs, specifications, quality standards, and test results.
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues related to design, material performance, or process variation.
- Knowledge of industry standards and customer requirements for safety, durability, and sustainability.
