POSITION: IBMi Systems Administrator, AS400 Systems Engineer

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science, or the equivalent in education and/or experience
  • Minimum of 8 years experience supporting an Enterprise Data Center with distributed systems technology
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Power server hardware and IBMi Operating Systems
  • Familiar with PowerVM technologies, including HMC and PowerVC
  • Knowledge of IT solutions to support high availability and fault tolerance designs
  • Strong working knowledge of core networking TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, etc.
  • Knowledge of Cloud concepts Private, Public and Hybrid
  • Excellent communications, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor, Manage and Support IBM Power systems running IBMi Operating System, formerly AS400
  • Install/Configure IBMi Operating Systems along with 3rd party software running on IBMi
  • Configure networking and storage subsystems in support of connectivity and data requirements
  • Review system requirements and configure appropriate resources within IBM PowerVM virtualized infrastructure
  • Review critical system messages and log files, research and facilitate resolution
  • Review system utilization and implement appropriate configuration changes to improve application and job performance
  • Plan/Execute IBMi Operating system Upgrades along with applying PTF updates to address system issues and to align to security configuration requirements
  • Review/Configure system backups to ensure data is available for recoverability
  • Configure/Support monitoring solutions to support ongoing health and availability of IBMi partitions in a private cloud distributed infrastructure
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures to restart applications and servers
  • Engage with cross functional teams to troubleshoot system issues impacting availability and/or performance
  • Support ITIL processes for the Data Center, including Incident, Problem, Change and Service Request Management by opening up tickets, and tracking them through completion/closure
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to create technical support cases and provide necessary information to effectively troubleshoot so timely resolution can be implemented
  • Leverage software utilities and work with networking teams to troubleshoot network communication issues involving applications and systems
