Electronic Medical Records Data Engineer (EMR Data Engineer)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced EMR Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data solutions for Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with clinical, product, and engineering teams to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performance access to healthcare data while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain EMR data pipelines and backend services using Python and Django
Build and optimize GraphQL APIs for efficient querying and manipulation of EMR data
Design and manage PostgreSQL schemas, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability
Develop data ingestion, transformation, and validation processes for clinical and operational data
Implement data security, privacy, and access controls in compliance with healthcare standards (e.g., HIPAA)
Deploy and manage backend services on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc.)
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot data quality or integration issues
Collaborate with frontend engineers, data analysts, and healthcare stakeholders
Document data models, APIs, and workflows
Participate in code reviews and contribute to best engineering practices

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience in data engineering or backend development
Strong proficiency in Python and Django
Hands-on experience with GraphQL API development
Solid experience with PostgreSQL, including query optimization and indexing
Experience deploying and maintaining applications on AWS
Strong understanding of data modeling and ETL concepts
Familiarity with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
Experience working with sensitive or regulated data

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with EMR/EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Athena, or custom EMR platforms)
Knowledge of healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR)
Experience with data warehousing or analytics pipelines
Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
Understanding of healthcare compliance and security best practic
