Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Storage Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Mainframe Disk and/or Tape storage systems, specifically Hitachi Disk and IBM Virtual Tape technologies. The ideal candidate will support day-to-day storage operations, manage mainframe storage infrastructure, and also contribute to documentation, review of technical procedures, and creation of new operational documents.
This role requires strong technical depth in mainframe storage, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to produce clear and accurate technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform BAU (Business-as-Usual) mainframe storage operations including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Manage and support Hitachi Mainframe Disk Storage (DASD IBM 3390, Hitachi disk arrays)
- Work with IBM Virtual Tape Storage (VTS) systems and Tape architectures
- Analyze storage performance, capacity, alerts, and operational logs
- Maintain storage configurations and ensure compliance with internal standards
- Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and mainframe system teams to resolve issues
- Review existing technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and process alignment
- Create, enhance, and update technical procedures and SOPs
- Support storage-related change management, audits, and production readiness reviews
- Provide recommendations for storage optimization and reliability improvements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience as a Mainframe Storage Engineer
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with:
- DISK Storage: Hitachi Mainframe Disk / DASD (IBM 3390 series, Hitachi disk arrays)
- TAPE Storage: IBM Virtual Tape Systems (VTS)
- Strong understanding of Mainframe Storage Architecture, DASD allocation, and Tape management
- Experience supporting mission-critical mainframe environments
- Ability to read, review, and write technical documentation with high precision
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in an onsite environment
