Title: Reliability Engineering Support

Location: Cupertino, California

Direct Hire / Full time

Background Support the hardware development group by executing reliability testing and failure analysis on new Apple and supplier technologies. The Engineering Specialist (ES) will design and conduct reliability assessments to evaluate and improve hardware robustness. Collaborate with teams in Shanghai and various Chinese contract manufacturing locations. Ensure products meet and exceed customer expectations in terms of robustness, durability, and reliability. Provide support for lab testing, facilitate daily operations, and identify and rectify design flaws swiftly.

Scope of Work Retail Engineering Specialist:

• Lead and execute mechanical and environmental reliability tests (e.g., shock, drop, vibration, thermal cycling).
• Prepare detailed test plans and reports.
• Conduct statistical data analysis for reliability risk assessments.
• Perform failure analysis to determine root cause using methods such as X-ray, SEM/ EDS, FTIR, and microscopy.
• Develop new test procedures and specifications to assess technology robustness.
• Provide design recommendations to improve reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (RE, PD, SQE, etc.) to communicate test results and findings.
• Conduct research on technologies to predict failure modes.
• Prioritize and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Adhere to Apple s documentation, test, and safety standards.

Beats Engineering Specialist:

• Prepare detailed and accurate test reports in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with engineers and vendors to execute reliability tests according to established test plans and deliver timely results.
• Assist in failure analysis investigations.
• Collaborate with vendors to calibrate and maintain reliability facilities as well as to resolve technical challenges.
• Support lab logistics, including inventory management and organization.

Skills & Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science or other Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Automation, Materials Science, Electrical, etc.).
• 4+ years in a reliability, test, or quality engineering role.
• Experience with JEDEC, ASTM, and other industry standards.
• Hands-on experience with reliability testing and DOE/FMEA tools.
• Understanding of failure analysis techniques (X-Ray, CT, SEM/EDS, FTIR, XPS, C-SAM)
• Proficiency in statistical analysis.
• Experience with laboratory, manufacturing, or experimental setting
