Job Details

Apptronik is building robots for the real world to improve human quality of life and to help solve the ever-increasing labor shortage problem. Our team has been building some of the most advanced robots on the planet for years, dating back to the DARPA Robotics Challenge. We apply our expertise across the full robotics stack to some of the most important and impactful problems our society faces, and expect our products and technology to change the world for the better. We value passion, creativity, and collaboration to help us overcome existing technological barriers in the industry to create truly innovative products.

You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our newly formed Hardware Integration & Test at Apptronik. You will be at the forefront of bringing our humanoid robot platform to life, ensuring every physical component is meticulously integrated and rigorously tested. This is a critical leadership role for an engineer with deep expertise in both hands-on hardware development and strategic team management.

Responsibilities

  • Own all aspects of Wiring and Harness Design and Integration, ensuring the creation of robust, manufacturable, and reliable power and data distribution systems.
  • Own Configuration Management, including all aspects of revision control, and the creation and maintenance of accurate top level System Bills of Materials (BoM) for the robot and all auxiliary equipment.
  • Direct prototypes Hardware Integration and Bring-Up, guiding the team through the physical assembly, initial power-on, and functional testing of all new hardware designs.
  • Develop and release Kinematic and Dynamic Calibration schemes to ensure the robot's physical model is precisely aligned with its software and control systems.
  • Drive Design Verification by creating and executing comprehensive test plans at both the component and assembly levels to ensure all hardware meets design specifications.
  • Lead HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) Testbed Development, building and maintaining sophisticated test environments for rapid, safe, and repeatable verification of new hardware and software, fully integrated into our CI/CD pipeline.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience in a hands-on hardware engineering role, with a strong focus on complex electromechanical systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in a direct leadership or management role, with a proven track record of managing and mentoring technical teams.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in the design and manufacturing of wiring and cable harnesses.
  • Proven experience in developing and operating Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testbeds.
  • Direct experience with configuration management and BoM ownership for a complex hardware product.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with humanoid robotics or similar complex robotic systems is a significant advantage.
