Job Title: Data Governance Specialist
Location: Remote (Prepared to travel to New York/Washington DC on an as-needed basis)
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Specialist to lead and support our enterprise data governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defining governance frameworks, developing roadmaps, and partnering with business and technical teams to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Create and maintain a detailed data governance roadmap, outlining key milestones, maturity goals, and implementation steps.
  • Establish and manage data governance policies, standards, and processes.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to define data ownership, data stewardship, and data quality requirements.
  • Support metadata management, data cataloging, data lineage, and classification initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve data quality, resolve data issues, and promote best practices.
  • Conduct regular assessments of governance processes and recommend enhancements.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and dashboards on data governance metrics and progress.
  • Stay current with industry trends and evolving regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy, security, compliance).
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, best practices, and data lifecycle management.
  • Experience defining governance strategy and roadmap for enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience with metadata management, data cataloging, data quality tools, or MDM solutions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements related to data.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across business and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Microsoft Purview (strong plus).
Experience in large enterprise or public-sector data governance programs.
