Overview
The Director of Healthcare IT provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization s clinical and administrative technology systems. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable system performance, advancing digital workflows, supporting clinical operations, and guiding the organization s technology roadmap.
The ideal candidate brings broad healthcare IT experience along with specialized knowledge in Radiology and imaging technologies, contributing valuable insight into clinical workflow optimization and enterprise system integration.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Technology Leadership
- Develop and execute the overall IT strategy in alignment with organizational goals, clinical priorities, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with senior leaders, clinical departments, and operational stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technology initiatives.
- Oversee IT governance, prioritization, and standardization efforts across the enterprise.
System Oversight & Optimization
- Lead the planning, deployment, and optimization of healthcare systems including EMRs, clinical applications, imaging platforms, and administrative systems.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of mission-critical applications.
- Promote workflow efficiency, system usability, and data integrity through continuous improvement initiatives.
Integration & Interoperability
- Oversee system integrations, data exchange processes, and interoperability standards across clinical and administrative environments.
- Ensure seamless communication between EMRs, imaging systems, modalities, and other connected platforms.
- Collaborate with technical teams to maintain reliable interfaces and scalable architecture.
Operational Support & Service Delivery
- Lead IT operations teams, ensuring effective support, timely issue resolution, and strong customer service.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, cybersecurity standards, and governing healthcare regulations.
- Develop policies, procedures, and best practices for system change control, maintenance, and support.
Project & Vendor Management
- Direct complex technology projects, including system upgrades, new implementations, and process transformation efforts.
- Manage vendor and partner relationships, contract negotiations, and performance accountability.
- Oversee IT budgets, resource planning, and strategic investments.
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Build and mentor high-performing IT teams including analysts, engineers, support staff, and project managers.
- Foster strong relationships with clinical and business leaders to support technology adoption and change management.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7 10+ years of progressive experience in healthcare IT leadership.
- Strong understanding of clinical applications, EMRs, imaging platforms, and healthcare data workflows.
- Experience managing enterprise systems, IT operations, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with healthcare standards such as HIPAA, HL7, DICOM, and interoperability frameworks.
- Proven success delivering complex IT projects and process improvements.
- Excellent communication, vendor management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field.
- Prior experience supporting Radiology systems (PACS/RIS/VNA) or imaging workflows is highly advantageous.
- Experience in hospitals, health systems, or large outpatient environments.
- Certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CIIP, or healthcare technology credentials.
